Revelstoke Idea Factory does not share or sell personal information collected in our facility.

Any personal information collected, used, or disclosed by the RIF is in accordance with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). 

What is Personal Information?

Personal information under PIPA includes identifiable information about an individual. Examples are age, date of birth, address, identification numbers, personal telephone numbers and email addresses, sex, religion, ethnicity, marital status, photographs, opinions, income, credit loan records and personal spending habits.

Collection of Personal Information 

When RIF collects personal information, staff will advise why it is collected, and the legal authority for doing so. The following are some examples of purposes for which the Idea Factory may collect personal information: issuing memberships, providing information about programs and services, recording comments or suggestions, recording payments and donations, or use of images in marketing materials.

How is personal information used? 

The RIF will only use personal information for the purposes for which it was originally collected, and in a manner consistent with those purposes. When is personal information disclosed? The RIF does not sell or rent personal information. Personal information is disclosed only in accordance with PIPA or as otherwise required by law. When other organizations require personal information in order to provide services on behalf of the RIF the lab ensures that these organizations treat the personal information in compliance with PIPA, FOIPPA and/or PIPEDA and RIF’s privacy policies. 

How Personal Information Is Kept Secure 

The RIF uses reasonable security measures to protect against risks such as unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure or disposal. Security measures include physical, technological and operational safeguards that are appropriate to the nature and format of the personal information. 

How Long Is Personal Information Kept? 

If the RIF uses personal information to make a decision that affects the member, the RIF will keep that information for a minimum of one year from the decision directly affecting the individual. Otherwise, the RIF will keep personal information only for the length of time necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, including legal and/or business purposes. Personal information is securely destroyed when it is no longer needed.  The board of directors will oversee an annual data clean-up and ensure the RIF storage system is up-to-date.

Accuracy of Personal Information 

The RIF will do its best to ensure that personal information is as accurate, complete, and up to date as necessary. 

How Does A Customer Access or Correct Personal Information? 

Individuals have a right to access any personal information that the RIF has about them. Customers can contact RIF staff for this information.  Individuals also have a right to request that their personal information be corrected, if they believe it is incorrect. 

Video surveillance

The equipment will be monitored by video surveillance for member safety (alerting staff to potentially dangerous incidents) and for the improvement of operational processes. Surveillance records will be kept for a maximum of 7 days, after which records will be destroyed.  If there is unauthorized access or disclosure, RIF members will be notified by email.  Members captured on video can request access at any time via email info@revelstokeideafactory.ca. This policy will be reviewed on a yearly basis.
