Build, Code, and Bring Electronics to Life

Curious about how electronics actually work? This hands on Intro to Digital Electronics course will take you from zero experience to building and programming your own interactive systems.

Over four engaging sessions, you’ll learn how to control lights, motors, sensors, and displays using real tools and components. You’ll start with simple circuits and quickly progress to creating responsive, programmable devices - creating your own programmable hologram alarm clock by the end of the course!

Perfect for beginners, creatives, students, or anyone curious about how hardware and code come together. This isn’t theory heavy learning, you’ll be building, testing, and experimenting from the very first session. Take your first steps into electronics today!

This course runs over four sessions - May 21st, May 28th, June 4th, June 11th,  6:30pm - 9pm each evening.

The course includes the cost of the electronic kit which participants can take home to continue experimenting with at the end of the course.

The four sessions will be broken down into the following:

Session 1 – Introduction to digital electronics
Participants will start with the basic learning how to control an LED, then add a switch for user input. Learn how to wire circuits using breadboards, understand core components (microcontrollers, resistors, LEDs, switches), and cover essential safety. Introduces key concepts like Ohm’s Law, digital vs analog signals, and basic programming structure including inputs, outputs, timing, and debouncing.

Session 2 – Control & Movement
Build on the basics by controlling DC motors and servo motors using code and more advanced inputs. Explore new components such as transistors, capacitors, and potentiometers. Learn programming concepts like variables, loops, and conditional logic, alongside fundamentals like analog to digital conversion, basic power electronics, and an introduction to binary and transistor behavior.

Session 3 – Communication & Systems
Learn how electronic systems communicate using simple protocols (UART, I2C, SPI). Work with addressable LEDs, sensors (e.g. temperature or motion), and basic displays. Introduces debugging via a computer, use of libraries, and more advanced programming concepts like interrupts. Covers system level ideas such as registers, addressing, control signals, and hardware vs software timing.

Session 4 – Project Lab (Creative Build)
A fully hands on session to consolidate learning. Participants can develop their own project or create a hologram alarm clock with the kit provided, combining inputs, outputs, and logic into a working system with guidance and support.
